The World According to Nandi

Our 6 year old nephew Nandi came to visit this weekend. Kennedy let him use the camera for a few minutes, and this is what he came up with. I think I'd like to be 6 again!

Feeding time with Kaelen

My child has developed this habit of yelling when anybody takes his bottle away... even if the bottle is finished. This habit, along with his habit of grabbing people's food from them (he stole a 9 year old's orange popsicle last week...) led grandma to suggest we start feeding him big boy food. So, we went to Babiesrus, bought some spoons and bowls (and even some sippy cups, just for fun), along with some rice cereal and assorted fruits. We fed him dinner and then decided to try out the cereal. See for yourself how it went.
Tonight was daddy's night for big boy food, and needless to say... it didn't happen!

Big boy

It's been such a long while since I posted any pictures that some of you may not recognize my son. At his four month checkup he was 16 pounds 12 ounces and 25.5 inches long (he was only 6 pounds 11 ounces and 19.5 inches long at birth). He is now 5 months, and the scale thinks he's 18.5 pounds - I think the scale's full of it since it thinks I'm... well nevermind what it thinks. One of my parenting book states that most children have doubled their birth weight by 6 months - mine doubled his by 2 months and is working on tripling it for his 6 month party (he heard you get ice cream when you triple your weight). I guess I have an overachiever on my hands. The good news is he's even cuter now, although at some point my baby has been replaced by a big boy. But he sleeps through the night and then some, so I guess I can't complain too much.
Kaelen and the grandpa pants
"I can stand!" (Makes me want to sing "mommy wow, I'm a big kid now"...)
Kaelen and the fro (we have to use leave in conditioner... didn't get that from my side)
The self-feeding Kaelen (his side of the story is these people take the bottle away if you don't hold onto it...)
Kaelen and the big boy stroller
(not quite certain what I did to deserve that one)
Kaelen and the big boy highchair
(he's already got his "it wasn't me" look down)
Wow, I got him to hold still long enough to get this shot...
And last but not least, napping with daddy

The Poop Heard Round the Ward

I being a fairly new mom had not yet experienced that wonderful paradox of wanting to burst out laughing all while wanting to crawl under the seat and hide that comes along with having kids. I finally experienced that this morning. Kaelen had just finished eating his second breakfast and was sitting on my lap. The chapel was dead silent (we were in between testimonies ... awkward silence and all) when all of the sudden comes this HUGE ppphhhhhhhhhhhhhhttttttttttttttttttttttttt. Apparently our chapel has excellent sound quality (plus my child has excellent ... well... you get the idea), because we were sitting at the back of the chapel and even the people at the front heard it as loud as if they had been right there. I turned red from embarrassment and from fighting as hard as I could to contain my laughter. The bishop later told me that the couple in front of us had jumped at the sound... oh Kaelen. It was the topic of conversation the rest of the morning. The silver lining in this was his outfit remained intact, at least until we got home. Oh well... he had outgrown the outfit anyway.
