This past week one of my high school friends suffered a very touching family tragedy. Her two youngest children, ages 4 and 15 months, died unexpectedy. They were exposed to toxic fumes from rat poison placed outside their home. Their deaths were heartbreaking. Even though I hadn't seen this friend for some time and didn't know her children, it was still very emotional for me as well as for a lot of my classmates.
As I was thinking about the situation and wondering how she as a mother was handling all of the pain, I started thinking about my life. It's very easy to let life pass you by. My life is quite hectic - I work full time, my husband is very busy, I have an energetic toddler, and I'm pregnant. However, I shouldn't let all of this get in the way of what I want and who I want to be. So, I took a few minutes to sit and think about my priorities and what I want out of this life. My number one priority is obviously my family, and yet they often get the short end of my very short stick! So, I am going to try extra hard to smile when my son throws his applesauce on the floor, when my husband asks me for the umpteenth time where his keys are, and when my soon to be baby decides it's party time at 3 am! Because really, I have a great life, and it's only going to get better, despite the white hairs I am constantly finding on my head (thanks a lot mom, grandma, great grandma, etc)!! Hopefully next time I feel like my life is spiraling out of control, I can keep some perspective and smile. (Sorry for the lifetime movie moment...)
