Apparently there have been some complaints about the lack of pictures lately. I think these are mostly coming from the grandparents, but I thought I should explain why we haven't posted... or at least tell people to get off our backs!!
As you may remember (or as you can read... scroll down a few posts), we had almost two feet of snow around Christmas time. Well, once that melted, we had 3 inches of rain in 24 hours, which brought about the usual: mudslides, avalanches and floods. Fun stuff. We escaped the mudslides and avalanches, but we didn't escape the flooding. On January 2d (Happy New Year) I discovered a spot on the carpet downstairs... I figured someone had spilled something so I didn't think much of it. When I confronted the someone about what he had spilled, he informed me it must have been the cats... Long story shorter, the spot "grew" once we moved the furniture out of the way. We had to move everything out into the hall, pull the carpet up and try to dry it out. A few days later we realized the carpet pad wasn't drying, so we pulled it up and discovered the floor underneath it was wet. Once the pad was dry we discovered the carpet hadn't totally dried, and even better, some of it was moldy. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Yes, at that point I lost it, if I had any to lose, which is doubtful.
Someone (yes, the same someone) also informed me there had been some water spots in the bathroom, which led us to the guest room. Apparently some pipe in the bathroom had leaked at some point and we were the lucky owners to get stuck dealing with wet carpet and pad and moldy floor in the guest room (not to mention figuring out which pipe leaked). AAAAAHHHHHH.
We moved all of the furniture from the basement into the garage, pulled up all the carpet and pad, and called in reinforcement. My dad flew in and he and Kennedy pulled up the vinyl tile on the floor (added bonus we didn't know of until after we'd pulled up all the carpet), bleached the concrete floor, sealed the concrete floor, and installed the subfloor and floor floor (yes I meant to type "floor" twice). AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.
Now, it's still not done. I was promised it would take a day to lay the floor, but that was before they decided they needed a subfloor as well. It's now been 5 days (not to mention the 8 days prior to that drying crap out). They also decided they needed a whole bunch more tools, so Kennedy got his first circular saw (Congratulations; it looks just like him). Grandpa flew out yesterday, and even though they accomplished so much (see, I'm very supportive), we still have the hallway and guest room to go (the glass is half empty... call me a realist).
Anyway, right now my house looks like it should be declared a disaster zone. Random crap has piled up in my living room, I have been forced to share my bathroom with the cats for the past two weeks, the guest room is filled with sawdust and power tools, and my christmas decorations are still up. Additionally, the stuff from the family room (i.e. all our files, pictures, books, movies, and similar stuff) is scattered somewhere in the garage (hopefully), and my storage room is still filled with soot (swine furnace repairman). And to top it all off my tax refund (that I won't receive for another month or so) has already been spent on power tools and flooring. AAHHHH.
Quite obviously there hasn't been time for pictures, and even if there were time, I'd have to find the camera, the batteries, the charger, and the USB cord to upload the pictures.... So, I suggest that you keep your complaints to yourself, or else I'll have someone spill something all over your carpet and we'll see how you like it!
Happy New Year!!
