Never Again

So, it's been a few weeks since I've blogged (I love that blogged is an accepted verb... cracks me up). Anyway, there is a very good reason for that. We moved. It was horrid. As far as moves go, I'm sure it was very smooth and easy. I just really hate moving. Add in a small child and a very short time period (we got the keys on Friday night and had to be out of the apartment with the apartment cleaned by Saturday night), and I was an absolute wreck. Luckily my parents were here to help us, because otherwise I may have gone on a shooting rampage! I had a panic attack Friday night as I was trying to pack up the kitchen and clean up the garbage and clean out the fridge and pack up anything I might need in the 24-hour period I would be without my stuff and and and... you get the idea. It was a long night...

Somehow we did indeed get everything out of the old place and into the new place and get the old place cleaned up on time. And the next day, I was the only one that went to church!! (Yes, I am a saint... or rather, I hadn't found a substitute to teach my class.... darn.) However, the packing and moving were only part of the fun. We decided to buy a used washer dryer set from an appliance store I found on craigslist. Lovely craigslist. This washer and dryer were fairly cheap, and I figured that would be great. Yeah, not so much. But that wasn't really the problem. The problem started when the promised delivery time came and went. We still had the moving van, so my husband and father decided to go pick up the washer and dryer themselves. This they did, and while they were at the store, they also picked up a new dishwasher, since ours was fairly old. I wasn't home when they set up the washer and dryer, but I was told later that they seemed to work fine, except that the dryer was loud. I figured it wasn't a big deal and thought nothing of it. Loud was an understatement. It sounded like a train. I wasn't thrilled, but I figured I'd get over it... eventually.

Later that night the men decided to install the dishwasher. Apparently there was a reason the old dishwasher had never been updated (the rest of the kitchen appliances are all fairly new). The plumbing was "interesting". Two hours later, the guys were finally ready to put the new one in. They opened up the dishwasher and, unfortunately, there was a light at the tunnel, or rather at the back of the dishwasher. There was a HUGE hole. Nobody at the store noticed this hole, and neither of the guys noticed it until that moment. They both started laughing... they thought it was hilarious. I failed to see the humor, especially since it was like 10:30 Saturday night and I had no dishwasher. They weren't able to put the old one back in that night as the plumbing had been somewhat funky, so they were going to have to make yet another trip to Home Depot in order to fix it. It all worked out in the end. We got a new washer and dryer from Sears and had it delivered (on a side note, the Sears truck broke down at our house after they delivered our stuff... apparently we have some sort of appliance curse). I finally convinced the appliance store to come pick up their crappy appliances (I decided that since we were returning the dishwasher we may as well return the dryer, and since the washer and dryer were sold as a set, the washer was going back too), and some day I may actually get my money back.

So, a week later we are mostly unpacked, and things look good (other than the storage room... but that's okay). My sanity is starting to return, and I even have one more week before I have to go back to work. I'm really just waiting for something to break... my bet is on the kitchen faucet. Anyway, I need to go give the cutest baby ever a bath, so I will end this episode.

Glad you made it to the new place... I can relate, crazy appliance problems aside, moving was hard enough without a baby!
