Potty training resistance

Kaelen has been excited about potty training for quite a few months now. He would sit on the potty several times a day at day care, and a few times there was something in it (although he seemed surprised). I absolutely refused to help with the potty training, since I was worried about how he'd handle it once Aidan came around.

Several of Kaelen's friends are getting potty trained and he's been observing them. He's told me several times this past week that he needed to use the potty; being the good parent I am, I said "NO!!!" I figure it is much easier to change a diaper a few times a day than clean up little boy messes and have to help him use the potty umpteen times a day. And, at this point his diapers aren't all that expensive (at least not compared to his brother's!).

Well, tonight we were preparing for bath time, and Kaelen once again indicated he needed to use the potty. I decided to just give in and let him sit on his potty (we've had it sitting in the bathroom for 6 months...). After a few minutes I had to force him to get off; I couldn't figure out why he was so excited. And then I saw it... he actually peed in the potty!!! Intentionally!! We both gave him high fives and then he said he needed to use the potty again... this is why I didn't want to start this process yet!! Anyway, we are going to celebrate the small victory and see where it takes us.
